# Rate limits

> Requests are limited to 1000 per minute per API key; card creation is limited separately. Back off on 429.

Requests are limited to **1000 per minute** per API key (sliding window).
Exceeding that returns `429 API_KEY_RATE_LIMITED`.

Card creation is limited separately, per business and shared with the
dashboard; exceeding it returns `429 CARD_LIMIT_EXCEEDED`. If you expect a
significant number of cards to be created, reach out to your account
manager first for a better experience.

## No rate-limit headers

Responses don't carry `Retry-After` or remaining-quota headers. On `429`,
back off and retry; exponential backoff starting around one second works.
For idempotent endpoints, retry with the **same** `Idempotency-Key`.

## Batching advice

* Send creates one after another, not in parallel bursts; a batch of cards
  still counts against the card-creation limit.
* Cache reference data (`/team-members`, `/cards/categories`) instead of
  re-reading it inside loops.
* Page through list endpoints with `limit` and `page` until
  `meta.totalPages`.
